Επιστροφή από την Αθήνα με συναισθηματικό mix. Η επικείμενη παρουσίασή μου στο επιτυχημένο 3rd FLOSS Conference μπορεί να ακυρώθηκε λόγω αναποδιάς, αλλά η συνεύρεσή μου στον ίδιο χώρο με παλιούς γνώριμους που εκτιμώ ιδιαίτερα, όπως ο Δημήτρης Γλέζος, ο Σεραφείμ Ζανικόλας, ο Αστέρης Μασούρας και ο Αντώνης Χριστοφίδης, αποζημίωσε πλήρως την κατάσταση.
Επίσης, με μεγάλη χαρά γνώρισα από κοντά τους Γιώργο Τζιραλή του opencoffee και Νίκο Αναγνώστου. Ο Γιώργος, μάλιστα, με φιλοξένησε στο pc-lab της Σχολής Εφαρμοσμένων Μαθηματικών και Φυσικών Επιστημών του ΕΜΠ, στην τελευταία διάλεξη του εγχειρήματος data mining, a course by blog. Η σύντομη επαφή μου με τους φοιτητές και τον ίδιο, επιβεβαίωσε τις υποψίες μου πως κάτι σπουδαίο γίνεται εκεί.
Τα καλύτερα έρχονται.

The formulated clusters correspond to neighborhoods of people that (seem to) connect with each other. The real Nexus graph provides a high degree of interaction. It’s rather impressive to click, watch and recall when and under what specific circumstances I’ve met all these people.
From things like this, a key technique in modern sociology, information science, economics, and biology has emerged: Social Network Analysis. Yet another Big Brother tool some people would argue.
On Tuesday 27th May 2008 I’ll give a talk on R package development, at the 3rd Free / Libre / Open Source Software (FLOSS) Conference.
The conference will take place on May 27th & 28th 2008, in the National Technical University (NTUA) of Athens, in Greece.
